To paint a room, Suzanne uses blue and white paint in the ratio of blue:white = 8:3. What was the total number of gallons of paint used if she used 6 gallons of blue paint?

Sagot :

8:3 = 6:x
8x = 18
x = [tex] \frac{9}{4} [/tex]
8:3=6:x
8x=18(multiply your means and your extremes)
x=18/8 (transpose or transfer all the variables on the left side while the constants on the other side)
x= 2 1/4 ( two and one-fourth)
 so if there are 6 gallons of blue paint used already you just add the another 2 1/4 gallons of white paint. so all in all suzane used 8 1/4 galloons of paint. :)
