Assuming that the x and the y are on the numerators:
x/5 + y/2 = -14
x/10 - y/8 = 8
Multiply the first equation by 1/2 and subtract from the second equation
x/10 + y/4 = -7
x/10 - y/8 = 8
-3y/8 = 15
y = -40
substituting the value of y to the first equation
x/5 + y/2 = -14
x/5 - 40/2 = -14
x/5 - 20 = -14
x/5 = 6
x = 30
