What is LCM and GCF IN MATH PLS

Sagot :

LCM is least common mutiple and GCF is greatest common factor..tnx
I'll just add some details from the previous answer.

LCM means Least Common Multiple

For example, you want to know what is the LCM of 2 and 5.
So you have to count by 2s and by 5s.

Counting by 2:      2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16...
Counting by 5:      5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35...

You don't have to count up to infinity because we just need the least common multiple.

That means, we just have to look for similar numbers from the two lists.
Can you see?

Counting by 2:      2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16...
Counting by 5:      5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35...

The LCM is 10.

So basically you just have to continue counting until you find a common number from the two lists.

We'll move on to the next one.

GCF means Greatest Common Factor

Oh, common again. Yeah.
This time, instead of counting, we factor numbers.

Let's take the GCF of 10 and 50.

Factoring 10 and 50, we get:
Factors of 10: 1, 2, 5, 10
Factors of 50: 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, 50
(You don't have to list it like this. You can use the tree method. I'm pretty sure it's taught in schools so you can just ask your teacher. :D)

Now, we see that there are a lot of similar factors.
But, remember, we have to take the greatest common factor.
