What is computer virus?
A computer virus is a type of a malicious software, often abbreviated as malware that performs nasty jobs on your system. When we say malicious, it is a harmful piece of software, which you cannot expect any good effect. A virus uses another file like an image, a document or any file where it could embed itself to get in to the victim's computer. Once the user has downloaded the file and runs it, the virus will start its activity. Some of the virus activities involves: deleting of user files, duplicating user files, overloading memory and storage, producing numbers of window pop ups and worse, making your computer boots up several times.
Viruses can be prevented by the following:
- Use of an antivirus software. An anti virus software can detect viruses when they enter your system, causing the virus to be deleted and stopped its activities. There are many brands of anti virus software nowadays.
- Do not use USB storage in public computer shops. Virus propagation methods are thru external memories like USBs.
- Do not download email attachment from unknown source. Aside from USBs, downloading unknown attachments from unverified origin can be a source of these malwares.
