It is hard to say who discovered electricity. Americans believes that it was Benjamin Franklin, which is not true. Ancient Greeks made some experiments on electricity, but it was not enough to name their "parents of electricity". Alessandro Volta is closer, he constructed the voltaic pile, which is a kind of a battery. Moreover, he was the first man who linked positive and negative-charged connections, which was actually first transmission of electricity. Nicola Tesla, Michael Faraday and Thomas Edison also have impact on development of the electricity, but Volta was first.
