Scientists think extremophiles could be some of the earliest life forms on Earth. This means that life can survive in tough environments and gives clues about the possibility of life elsewhere. A cockroach is an example of an extremophile because it can survive in a wide range of harsh conditions such as high temperatures, radiation, and even without food for long periods.
