What is NSTP?

NSTP or the National Service Training Program is subject course that is mandated by the Government to all Filipino College students. It has a total of 6 credit units that require Filipino students to take before actually being able to finish their studies. In a few cases, there are also exemptions who are not covered by the NSTP law.

When was the NSTP implemented?

The effective date of the NSTP program was implemented on January 23, 2002 which started in School Year 2002 - 2003 and falls under the Republic Act 9163 or the National Service Training program of 2001.

Purpose of the Implementation of the NSTP:

  • To uphold community leadership development of the students.
  • To help the Filipino youth in recognizing their vital roles in building and molding the nation.
  • To encourage the youth generation in fulfilling their roles for the country.
  • To manifest the values and ethics of a citizen with good leadership that has a patriotism or the love and devotion to the country.
  • To nourish the public awareness and readiness through enlightening the students with knowledge in relating to the contemporary diversities.
  • To instill a heart of a citizen that is ready and willing to defend the country at all cost.

Three Components of the National Service Training Program:

  1. Reserve-Officers Training Corps (ROTC)
  2. Literary Training Service (LTS)
  3. Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS)
