Polymerase
is found in the DNA, the genetic make-up that makes an individual unique from
every other individual. The main role of a polymerase is to make DNA from nucleotides,
which are the building blocks of a DNA. Polymerase is basically responsible for
DNA replication and there are several forms of this material. In DNA
replication, polymerase usually work in pairs to copy one molecule of a
double-stranded DNA into two new double stranded DNA molecules. Aside from
replication, polymerase molecules are also responsible in reviewing the DNA
strands to see if there are mistakes in based pairs and have them corrected.
They preserve the integrity of the original DNA strand that is then passed to
daughter cells.
