Questions to Ponder:

1. Can you recall some of your favorite poem way back in elementary and junior high school? Can you identify its structures? Which of the structural examples do you think is common?

Some of my favorite poems way back in elementary and junior high school are Jack & Jill and Nothing Gold Can Stay. The poem Jack & Jill contains one stanza with 6 lines and the poem Nothing Gold Can Stay contains one stanza with 8 lines. The structure they have in common is there verse, they are both poems that contains with rhyme and with meter.

2. Why do you think tone is important in writing a poem? Does it affect your interest as a reader? Can you identify the tone elements of your favorite poem?

Tone is very important in writing a poem, as it conveys a particular message from you as the writer and likewise affects the reader in a particular way. Consequently, it can also affect how the reader receives the message you are communicating. From my first favorite poem Jack & Jill, even though it is mostly considered as a nonsensical poem or a nonsense verse, it is a fun and easy to learn and also one of the few rhymes liked by the toddlers as well. And from my second favorite poem entitled Nothing Gold Can Stay, the overall emotion of the poem is a negative nervous and sad mood because change makes us nervous and losing things we love makes us sad.

3. Can you think of a poem with a character? How was it delivered? Is it possible to tell a story even if it is a poem? If you were a poet, how would you use the presented elements?

One of the poem with a character I know is Wisdom Persists Despite of Time. This poem is delivered clearly as it portrays the story of a character in the poem. Yes, it is possible to tell a story in a poem. If I were a poet, I would only choose some elements and devices that will achieve the effect I want to convey on my poems.

4. Which of the following poetic forms do you usually encounter? How do you appreciate these forms?

The poetic poems I usually ecountered are haiku and limerick. I appreciate these forms by listening on how the poem sounds when I will read it aloud. I pay attention to the rhythm of each line and how each line into one another. I also think about how the sound of the poem makes me feel. I considered how the rhythm or flow of the poem adds to the overall meaning.
