The founders came up with the name Systems Technology Institute after several brainstorming sessions, maybe inspired by Sarte's predilection for three-letter acronyms from the companies he was managing at the time.
The first two schools, in Buendia, Makati, and España, Manila, opened on August 21, 1983, and offered basic computer programming classes. It was easy to extend the franchise through the founders' business contacts because they had a unique and exceptional product. The franchise expanded a year after the first two schools opened to add STI Binondo, Cubao, and Taft.
A long way since its birth, STI’s thrust has permeated right into the core of the globally competitive market — it has transcended beyond ICT and beyond education, addressing the need for job-ready graduates.
