Advantages are the over time the Earths surface is regenerated. Erosion, given enough time would flatten the surface totally changing weather patterns. There are mountain ranges around the Earth that are significantly lower than when first created. The underlying movements adds new Surface, takes away old surface or covers old surfaces in lava. The Himalayas are still growing taller as the Indian plate inexorable pushes into the Asia plate. The Atlantic is growing wider as new surface is being created beneath it at the two plates are pulled apart.
Disadvantages are earthquakes, volcanoes, tsumamis. There are probably more but my mind has gone blank.
