The tone of being proud at the same time sad is used in the story of Arachne. The tone proud is clearly manifested when Arachne failed and refused to recognize and acknowledge the giver of all the talents on crafts and wisdom to the extent of challenging a goddess- the source of crafts and wisdom. It is at the same time sad because Arachne's ungrateful and boastful manner had put him in a miserable situation because he is cursed to weave all days of her life and she become a spider.
