Many coastal areas with an elevation of around 10 feet above sea level are prone to COASTAL EROSION, SUBMERSION and SALTWATER INTRUSION. When people settle around these places, their activities alter the natural environment. It is even aggravated when industries begin to locate near the ocean for the convenience of dumping their waste into the sea. Factories will need workers, so many people from the countryside move close to these factories causing an increase in population, this is why we see squatters situated around huge concrete factory walls. Soon natural coastal features such as saltwater marshes, estuaries, mangrove forests that slows down oceans waves are destroyed, which allows the water to gradually find its way inland into the streets and houses of people. People’s nonchalant view towards proper trash disposal is not helping at all.
