System software are important to run your computer before you can use it because system software communicates with your hardware and applications.
System software acts like a bridge or translator between the user, hardware and applications. It controls and manage your hardware and system. It is composed of Three (3) Types:
- Operating System - it's like the container of all the applications installed in your computer. It also communicates between the user and the hardware so they could have the best experience in using computers. You cannot install or use application software without installing an OS first. For example: You would want to create a presentation using Microsoft Powerpoint, you need to install Windows first, then install Powerpoint. OS also manage software tasks and jobs.
- System Software - These are software running at the moment you start your computer and while you use it (background running). It is necessary for other major and advance computer functions such as: BIOS and kernels.
- Utility Software - these are software necessary to maintain your computer in a working state and make them function more effectively. Examples are: Device Drivers, Control Panel and Task Managers.
