Sagot :
What is Refraction of Light?
Refraction (Bending Light)
- It is the bending of light waves as they pass from one material to another. Light waves refract when they pass through some materials so that their straight path changes. Materials that can transmit and refract light include water, glass, and clear plastic.
Refracted light makes objects look bent, broken, or wavy. The pencil in the glass of water looks broken because of refraction. The light is bent by the water.
The picture was provided on the above.
What is Light and their Properties?
Light is a form of energy that can be seen when it interacts with matter. It travels in waves. Light waves travel in one direction, away from their source. Light waves that vibrate in the direction perpendicular to the direction of their motion are called transverse waves. Light can travel through empty space. This is how light from the Sun reaches Earth and other planets.
The light waves behave in four different ways as they hit an object. They can be reflected, refracted, or absorbed. The behavior of the light waves depends on the properties of the object they hit.
Reflection (Bouncing Light)
- It is produced when light waves bounce off a surface. Light waves reflect from or bounce off objects that have smooth, shiny surfaces.
For example, you can see this page because it reflects some light into your eyes.
Look at the mirror--you see you own image. An image is a picture of the light source that light makes when it bounces off on a shiny surface. The image in the mirror is clear because most of the light waves reflect the same way off the mirror's smooth surface. Thus, reflection is the organized scattering of a wave of light.
Mostly light bounces off the smooth surface of the water. Sometimes, because the surface of water is very smooth, most of the light waves are reflected like a mirror. Same as the picture that I've been provided above.
Absorbing Light
- There are some materials that take in or absorb most of the light that hits them. You cannot see light that is absorbed because it is not reflected back to our/your eyes.
Dark-colored objects absorb more light than light-colored objects. For example, a black-shirt absorbs more light than a white shirt. The light absorbed by the black shirt changes into thermal energy. As a result, wearing a black shirt on sunny day makes one feel warmer than wearing a white shirt.

Answer:
What is Refraction?
- Refraction is the bending of a sound waves or either light waves that changes direction as they enter something causing a material to look broken or bent.
