In Filipino, proverbs are called salawikain or sawikain. They are brief instructive expressions that suggest a specific action, behavior, or judgment.They also prescribe norms, impart a lesson, or emphasize a tradition and beliefs in community.
Examples:
· Walang ligaya sa lupa na di dinilig ng luha.
· Ang kapalaran ko di ko man hanapin, dudulog lalapit kung talagang akin.
· Walang utang na di pinagbabayaran.
