This is true. Philippine literature has existed even before the Spaniards came. However, they were not written. They are just stories told from one generation to another about good behavior and is also used to explain things they don't understand. These are now called the 'alamat' or legends. Examples of these are "Ang Alamat ng Ampalaya" and "Bakit Mataas ang Langit". The few written works however were just written on barks of trees and leaves. They were written in Baybayin.
