Arachne is a very talented weaver, and a boastful one. She brags that she's better than the goddess of wisdom and war, Athena. So Athena challenged her to a contest where the loser will never make a loom again. Athena' s work was so beautiful and so Arachne's but it depicts about the past embarassments of the gods and goddesses. So Athena and the viewers judged that Athens work is better. Later on Arachne felt a guilt and committed a suicide. But Athena took pity on her and instead bring her back to life in a form of a spider.
